Bathurst Regional Council is asking for the community’s ideas as it prepares to call for tenders for construction works at Freeman Park at Llanarth.
The 1.2-hectare site, bounded by Freeman Circuit and Cobb Close, is about half the size of Machattie Park’s 2.7 hectares.
Council has employed Canberra firm dsb Landscape Architects to investigate design options for the new park.
“We envisage to have the design phase of Freeman Park completed within 13 weeks and at the end of that period will call tenders for the construction works,” mayor Graeme Hanger said.
“Funds have been allocated within the current budget to develop Freeman Park.
“Community spaces within residential subdivisions are a requirement of any developing subdivision and provide an opportunity for residents to enjoy parks close to home.
“They also help nurture a sense of community by allowing people to connect and interact with others who live close by.”
Cr Hanger said calling for community input in the creation of a new city park was not unusual for council.
“The process of seeking community feedback for the design phase is not new and is in line with council's ongoing desire to obtain the views and feedback from residents or stakeholders, especially when developing community assets,” he said.
The survey opened on Saturday and will close on Friday, June 16. Visit yoursay.bathurst.nsw.gov.au
