The Bathurst rider was up against a small but tough field in Saturday’s race at Penrith, and was right in the mix as the field made their sprint for home after 45 kilometres.
Tuynman was just pipped to the line by fellow under 19s rider Lucie Fityus (Hunter District Cycling Club) in the sprint finish.
The under 19s riders raced alongside the elite women’s field but the younger riders were a force to be reckoned with across the entire nine lap race.
Across that last lap I was giving it my all. I wasn’t going to be a going home without a medal.

“My headspace was great going into the race and I was feeling really fresh,” Tuynman said.
“There were breaks happening left, right and centre. The two NSWIS riders, Angela [Smith] and Jade [Colligan], really wanted to split the field.
“In races like that you’ve got to play smart and be tactical. You have to keep you’re options open.
“Across that last lap I was giving it my all. I wasn’t going to be a going home without a medal.”
Tuynman, 18, finished sixth overall in the combined JW19/Elite results, with the race taken out by Smith (Peloton Sports).
The Bathurst rider is determined to make her mark on the road in 2017.
“I’ve done better than last year’s results. I was meant to do a lot of work on the track … but I feel that my focus going forward will be on the road and eventually getting a spot at nationals,” she said.
Bathurst Cycling Club was strongly represented at the Sydney Road Titles.
Graham Stait came the closest to earning the club a second podium when he finished fourth in the MMAS8+ category.
A brutal race unfolded for both Brad Rayner, Billy and Craig Hutton in the elite men’s race.
The Bathurst riders and a large peloton were unable to reel in Sydney’s Jesse Coyle, who won a three way sprint battle over Nathan Booth and Cameron Roberts.
Rosemary Hastings and Suzy Ladanyi put in strong performances in their WMAS D grade race.
