It was impossible to pick a winner half way through Monday’s Shakey Jakey @ Stud 0-2 Wins Heat (520 metres), as several runners threw down challenges to Nichole Googs in the lead.
Moonshine Spirit briefly got ahead of Nichole Googs across the back straight but Lisa Worthy’s runner got herself into the lead once more into the final turn.
Ezzy threatened to make a move on the leading pair but was blocked for a way through the middle of the two runners.
The space for Ezzy to make a move finally opened up on the home straight but Nichole Googs wasn’t ready to throw in the towel.
Race favourite He Can Fly ($1.80) finished with a head full of steam down the outside but came up a head short of running down Nichole Googs.
Ezzy ($23.80) was just a further head away in third place.
Winner trainer Worthy said her bitch was deserving of a long-awaited victory.
“It was very close. She’s been one of the fastest dogs I’ve ever had. She just needs that luck in running,” she said.
“Having the six box, I wasn’t confident, but after her last trial I thought she would be up there in the running.
“She might run further than the 500m. I raced three’s and four’s with her early on. She won a maiden here in quite a quick time, but that was a while ago.
“It’s been a long time between drinks for her but the owner will be over the moon.”
