Wear It Purple day falls on August, 25 and is an easy way to show support to the rainbow community, and encourage people to be proud of who they are.
Research shows that the young LGBTIQA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning and Asexual) community are at higher risk of experiencing a mental health issue.
Nicki Halliwell, programming manager from headspace, said given the very public debate about same sex marriage and the influx of homophobic and damaging advertising that has begun to seep into everyday life, the community need to stand together and support our LGBTIQA+ community and show them that Bathurst is a safe and welcoming place.
Headspace is hosting a Wear it Purple afternoon tea, beginning at 3.30pm Friday. Everyone is welcome, and can also leave a message of support.
