Vixens won 3-1 over Panorama FC to keep the CSU women’s dynasty going strong.
A brace from club president Meaghan Kempson and a late goal from Paula Mitchell took the students out to a 3-0 lead.
Panorama picked up a late goal thanks to a strong Hayley Cheney effort but there was no clawing back the Vixens’ lead.
““We’ve had three grand finals and three premierships going into this season so we were the target for everyone,” CSU coach Alex Finall said.
“Pano took it to us this year, so to get the fourth win in a row shows that we’ve got a dynasty of ladies football here at CSU. It’s been absolutely amazing.
“They pressure us and pressure us every game. To get up 1-0 that let everyone take a breath. After the second goal we were starting to think that we’ve got this. Luckily we got the third goal otherwise the goal from Hayley would have made it 2-1 and that would have been a tight finish.”
Panorama coach Tony Clancy said it was unfortunate his side couldn’t repeat the standard of football his side showed a fortnight earlier.
“CSU have been the benchmark all year, and that major semi-final win against them was a great effort from our girls. We just couldn’t get up to that level again today,” he said.
“We’re a new club and lot of the girls hadn’t played together before, but they gelled and they’re happy playing alongside each other.
“Hats off to CSU. They deserved it. They took their chances. We probably had three inside the first 10 minutes, which could have made a difference.”
Panorama could have been up 2-0 in the opening 10 minutes if not for the intervention of the crossbar.
Madi Gallegos’ cross found the head of Morgan Sherman but the shot bounced off the bar back into the field of play.
A long range Cheney attempt also glanced off the bar.
CSU were in the mood to take long efforts of their own. Ayla Eynard’s shot forced goalkeeper Brooke Inwood to tip the ball over for a corner.
Gallegos was a constant threat in front of the CSU goal. Her closest effort in the opening half was a free kick that went just left of the target.
In the 35th minute Vixens found the breakthrough courtesy of some pinpoint passing.
Kempson and Chloe Hinde’s series of one-two passes down the right wing allowed the former to work her way into the Panorama penalty area and hit home the opening goal.
CSU returned to the field with a 1-0 lead and continued to assert their dominance in the midfield.
In the 56th minute Kempson had the chance to double the advantage but she couldn’t get off a controlled shot.
Gallegos had a huge chance to level the scores when she got behind the CSU defence, only for her shot to go wide of the mark.
Vixens then brought the ball up the other end and Kempson capitalised on a failed Panorama clearance to put her side up 2-0.
CSU put the result beyond doubt in the final minutes when Mitchell got on the end of a long ball and found the back of the net.
Cheney produced a nice finish while off-balance to ensure Panorama wouldn’t leave Proctor Park without a goal.
