Since a men’s wheelchair marathon was added to the Sydney running festival, only twice has Fearnley not been crowned as the champion.
He also holds the course record – a one hour, 36 minutes, 38 seconds push in 2011.
This year Fearnley’s pace was not as quick as he crossed the line in 1:51.08, but he did enjoy social atmosphere of the event.
“My favourite part of today’s Sydney Marathon, a quick trip past my place – Fearnley Grounds in Centennial Parklands. Beautiful day in the city,” he tweeted.
Bathurst’s Nick Zawadski was also one of the more than 4,000 competitors who tackled the 42 kilometre course.
He clocked a time of 3:06.14 to place 27th in his male 25-29 years age group and 146th overall. He was in the top six percent.
