When a window of opportunity opened for Winlock Earner in the Murphy’s Pre Ed & Rearing Maiden (307 metres) on Monday she made the most of it.
Winlock Earner ($4.60) was ready to strike when runners in front of her got tangled up, bounding clear at the halfway point of the Kennerson Park race to win by four lengths for Molong trainer and owner Augustus Weekes.
Excellent Emma, Buddy Octane and Stay Rich got out of the boxes fastest. Grungle’s Bridge joined the group but ran out of room and was shuffled to the back of the pack.
Buddie Octane and Excellent Emma contacted each other and it gave a charging Winlock Earner the chance to hit the front.
Sweet Lady had also avoided the dramas to make a charge forward with Winlock Earner on the turn for home.
However, Winlock Earner was full of running. She continued to extend her gap over Sweet Lady ($26) right through to the finish line.
Stay Rich ($8.10) was third.
Winlock Earner had come to Bathurst first up after her previous campaign in Tasmania.
Weekes’ son, Kaleb, was happy to see Winlock Earner get up after four straight runner-up finishes to start her career.
“She had a bit of luck today but she shot through on the corner and we’re really happy,” he said.
“We haven’t had her back for long from Tasmania. We’ve freshened her up over the last couple of weeks and she looked good today.”
