A FIRE that destroyed an historic Catholic church at Brewongle is now under investigation.
Firefighters were called to Tarana Road at Brewongle, about 500 metres south of Brewongle School Road, at 2.01pm on Monday.
When NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW crews arrived on scene the structure was fully engulfed by flames and fanned by strong winds.
The blaze spread to nearby grasslands along the rail line but was quickly contained by firefighters.
