Students from schools across Bathurst were invited to pick flowers out of the gardens in Kings Parade, which would otherwise be removed on Wednesday for the summer planting.
With the help of florist Vanessa Pringle, the flowers were turned into bouquets that were later presented to residents and clients of the city’s various aged care facilities.
Each of the schools were allocated a facility to give their bouquets to.
Mayor Graeme Hanger said it was a great gesture that would bring a smile to people’s faces.
“It is an opportunity for young people to go to the aged care facilities and make contact with the community members who don’t get out as much,” he said.
“[The flowers] will be put to some good use. A lot of the flowers are still good.”
This is the first time council has given students the chance to pick flowers from the gardens.
