While summer officially started well over a week ago, below average minimum and maximum temperatures made it feel like it was still spring.
However, Weatherzone is forecasting a maximum of 35 degrees on Thursday, followed by highs of 33 on both Friday and Saturday.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a heatwave for majority of NSW, which will begin hitting on Tuesday.
The worst is expected to hit on Thursday, making it the city’s hottest day since February.
Weatherzone meteorologist Craig McIntosh said a slow moving trough of hot air is bringing the hot weather.
“The trough is pushing hot air over eastern NSW,” he explained.
“The worst affected areas are northern NSW and the North Coast.
“It’s officially a heatwave but Bathurst is on the fringe and it’s of low intensity.”
Mr McIntosh said it will feel extra in Bathurst, considering the below average temperatures in the region in the past week.
The Bureau of Meteorology defines a heatwave as three days or more of high maximum and minimum temperatures.
December’s long term average is a maximum of 26.5 and minimum of 11.2.
