The Bathurst native will be wearing the silks of his home state in the Australasian Young Drivers Championship, which gets underway at Redcliffe.
McCarthy will be under pressure as the defending champion, having prevailed when Western Australia hosted the annual series last year.
But that will not deter the reinsman who carries with him the experience of more than 3,700 drives, many of which have been at Group level.
“Consistency certainly pays off and most of all, drive each horse as best as you can,” McCarthy said.
“Sometimes you might not have the best chance in the race, but know the horse and try and get the best position possible and you might finish one spot closer ... it’s all about getting as many points as you can.”
