Blake Tickell, from Rouse Hill in Sydney's north-west, had been competing in the Ski Racing NSW state titles at Wyangala Dam, in the state's central west, when he fell at high speed about 1.50pm on Saturday.
He was pulled unconscious from the water suffering critical head injuries, and was flown to Sydney's Westmead Children's Hospital.
However, his father Darren Tickell said Blake did not recover.
"Blake had a ski racing accident yesterday, and sadly passed away at 5.40pm tonight," Mr Tickell wrote on Facebook on Sunday.
He thanked the community for their messages and help, and said his son had died doing what he loved.
