Mr Fitzpatrick was at the school from 1986 to 1990 and has gone on to have a successful career in the radio industry.
The Kelso High Campus Decade Award recognises a student who completed their secondary education at Kelso High Campus more than 10 years ago and has achieved outstanding success in their chosen field.
Previous winners have included an international architect, a Paralympic gold medallist, a film director, environmentalist and lawyer.
Mr Fitzpatrick’s interest in music and its production began in the FM studio that existed in the old pre-fire Kelso High and many a Friday lunchtime was spent in quadrangle two listening to his choice of music.
He left school in year 11 to become a radio technician apprentice at 2BS and completed a Bachelor of Communications at CSU during his time at the station.
He spent seven years at 2BS and, just before he left, was involved in the foundation of B-Rock 99.3 FM.
Mr Fitzpatrick became the music director at MTV Australia in 1997 and soon added television to his resume, making appearances in Australian dramas Heartbreak High and G.P. and on Channel Ten’s Joker Poker and Channel Nine’s Hole in the Wall.
A number of other opportunities followed as he was a presenter with Triple M Sydney and Melbourne, assistant content director at Triple M Melbourne and program manager for Triple M Sydney.
He anchored The Cage breakfast show on Triple M Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide with James Brayshaw, Peter Berner, Brigitte Duclos and Matt Parkinson from January 2002 until November 2007.
He was also named in Cleo’s top 50 Most Eligible Bachelors list twice, in 2003 and 2005.
Mr Fitzpatrick became content manager for the Southern Cross Austereo organisation in 2009 and has been head of content for Triple M Australia-wide since 2014, which involves content creation, talent development and creating the music format strategy for the Triple M network across Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
He was recently invited to present at the International Radiodays Conference in Dublin, Ireland, where he joined radio CEOs from around the world.
