The two-day air, car and motorbike show at Bathurst Airport on April 7-8 is a fundraiser for Lifeline Central West.

An estimated 8000 people attended last year’s inaugural one-day event and it raised $35,000 for the charity.

The event attracted hundreds of cars and motorbikes, as well as aircraft from the Royal Australian Navy, NSW Police Force and acrobatic planes.

Lifeline Central West executive officer said feedback from the inaugural event was overwhelmingly positive and next year’s event will feature more flying, more cars and motorbikes for the show and shine.

Also, more stalls and food outlets will be included in the huge family-friendly event.

“Free parking, a free park and ride transport system combined with a new state-of-the-art ticketing and motor car/bike registration system will enhance the experience for all,” Mr Ferguson said.

By running Soar, Ride and Shine over two days next year, rather than one, he said there would be significant financial benefits accruing to the broader Bathurst community through food, beverage, and accommodation.

However, he said behind the fun of Soar, Ride and Shine there is a very serious side to Lifeline Central West’s work in the community.

​“Mental health and related issues are very prevalent in our community,” he said.

Nationally, 2866 people chose to end their own lives by suicide, data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed earlier this year.

Mr Ferguson said Soar, Ride and Shine will give Lifeline Central West the opportunity to raise funds for its ongoing work, including crisis support workers for the national 131114 number.

He said the charity deals with a range of serious issues on a daily basis, and the event will draw attention to the need for everyone in the community, most especially men and boys, to seek help when they are feeling a bit wobbly.

Entry tickets to Soar, Ride and Shine start at $15 for adults, $5 for children or $30 for a family of four for Saturday’s afternoon flying program.
