Five days earlier she missed out when the Lester Hewitt, Dunkeld trained four-year-old had started as the $2.10 favourite, but this time around she got the job done in the Congratulations Nathan and Angela Pace (2,260 metres).
She did so by ducking into the sprint lane when the field formed a wall across the track at the top of the home straight.
While some had peeled wide before unleashing their final sprint, Reese’s move to take a shorter path home saw the $3.60 chance get the nod.
“It worked out well this week, so I’m happy,” Rees said. “He did all the work.”
Bettor Under Fire came from one out and one back to win by 2.8m over Lucky Iffy ($13.50), clocking a 1:59.8 mile rate to take his record to three wins and a third from eight starts this season.
