“School holidays have started and many families will be hitting the road to enjoy the break,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
“This app can provide relief at the hip pocket by shining a spotlight on the cheapest service stations along the journey.”
The FuelCheck website has been visited more than 3.3 million times since it went live last year.
More than 84,000 people have downloaded the app since its launch in October.
Data gathered from the app shows motorists can potentially save hundreds of dollars a year by using it.
The government reports that NSW Fair Trading officers will be conducting compliance checks over summer to ensure service stations are updating their fuel prices in real-time.
If the price at the pump does not match what is shown on the app, motorists can make a complaint directly to Fair Trading.
