The self-confessed “cricket tragic” said he wanted to do something in honour of the annual McGrath Foundation Pink Test and also raise a bit of money for a good cause along the way.
Mountain Meats owner and butcher Mr Smith has created a special recipe for a new range of bright pink chicken snags that will be sold during the test’s duration.
“It’s just beetroot, we grow it out at the farm and put it through the mincer with walnuts and Greek feta,” Mr Smith said.
“We gave them a test-run and they’re quite lovely.
“We’ve already sold 15 or 18 kilos of them.”
Well known for creating a wide range of gourmet sausages, Mr Smith said Mountain Meats’ customers were always keen to try out new snag flavours once they hit the market.
“If you bring new flavours in they trust you,” he said.
“I think we’ll have enough to get us through to the end of the test.”
All profits from the pink sausages will be donated to the McGrath Foundation to help the charity fund additional support and breast care nurses for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
Mountain Meats is located in Bathurst City Centre.
