The Georges Plains trainer-driver will sit in the gig behind Royal Story in a race run to honour his parents – the Tom and Angela Hewitt Memorial (2,240 metres).
One of four children, Bernie Hewitt followed in the footsteps of his father in becoming involved in the harness racing industry.
Tom Hewitt’s success stories included having Nikalong Shadow race the 1989 Inter Dominion Grand Final at Perth, Bernie driving him to sixth place.
Royal Story, an Always A Virgin x Leagueoferown mare, will be having her first start since running a short-half-head second in the Group 3 Inter City Pace on December 30.
She will go from barrier two as Hewitt faces a quality field which includes Our Triple Play, to be driven by his son Doug.
