Take it from me, someone that spent their first week at the mountain during the Bathurst 1000 in October last year, you need to be prepared.

The smell of burning rubber, exhaust, hot dogs mixed with the sound of the engines and thousands of screaming fans is a recipe made in heaven for many motorsport fans. But if you’ve never been before or never been to the Bathurst 12 Hour before, make sure you read this list.
Make sure you know the rules
The last thing you want is to be asked to leave because you didn’t read the important information.
A full list of frequently asked questions can be found at the Bathurst 12 Hour website.
The FAQ covers parking, tickets costs, age restrictions and accommodation information.
Slip, slop, slap
Despite the recent cool change, it’s still summer, and the UV rays can still burn you to a crisp even on a cool and overcast day. Most of the mountain is in the open, so I recommend you check out the SunSmart App from the Bureau of Meteorology. It’s available on iOS and Android.
Bring cash
While there ATM facilities and some vendors accept card payments, for the sake of speed, pay with cash as much as you can. It helps the line move faster and saves you from over-spending in case you get a bit too caught up in 12 Hour fever.
If you NEED to withdraw cash, you can find ATM machines in Harris Park.
Hydrate
Spending all your time at the mountain is bound to take it out of even the most die-hard fan. My advice is to bring plenty of frozen bottle of water to keep on top of your hydration needs through the day.
The 12 Hour website states:
Patrons may bring in limited quantities of food and drink for personal consumption.
Wear comfy shoes
Even if you get a cushy seat in the grandstand, you’re going to need to brave the crowds of the mountain to grab food or to just stretch your legs.
I get it, I know those custom McLaren slip-ons you spent hours making with textas and lace are amazing, they just might not offer the flexibility and arch support other shoes might. So just give it a second thought.
Have an amazing time
The Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour is like Christmas, it comes but once a year. So make sure you stay respectful of the fans and people around you, come prepared so you’re not left sunburned and thirsty and remember to have a great time like everyone else.
Have a memorable 2018 Bathurst 12 Hour, and stay classy Bathurst.
