Initial works in the restoration of the car park will involve the removal of existing garden blister beds and the problematic paulownia trees along with old irrigation and damaged sections of the asphalt car parking surface.
Following this, Bathurst Regional Council will begin the installation of new garden beds, trees, irrigation and a new asphalt car parking surface.
During the restoration works parking will still be made available for library and art gallery patrons, however, there may be some disruptions while the restoration works are undertaken.
Schumack Engineering (NSW) has been awarded the tender to carry out the works.
Mayor Graeme Hanger said the restoration works at the library car park would greatly improve the amenity of the Bathurst Library and Art Gallery precinct and provide patrons with improved parking availability.
“It’s important for council to initiate infrastructure projects that enhance our community and further improve the liveability of the region,” Cr Hanger said.
Council resolved in 2015 to remove the paulownia trees. Although they were in good health, it was decided they were not suited to that location as their invasive roots damaged the road and gutters.
The current works are due to be completed by the end of March.
