Mana Netball Club has seen some incredible growth in the past 12 months and in 2018 it will have seven junior and seven senior teams competing in local competitions, including one Netta team completely made up of Aboriginal players.
Mana club president Saphai Mitai-Ngatai has been over the moon with the growth her club has experienced.
“People just started coming up asking me if they could join,” she said.
“It’s basically been word of mouth. I’m so overwhelmed right now.
“I had known players who were thinking about playing for Mana last year and their parents also wanted them to get quality coaching.”
Mitai-Ngatai was involved in the formation of the club in 2017 and had one team competing in A grade last year, with the team managing to win four games from 13 matches.
The growth means the Mana club has had to branch off to a full committee for the first time.
However, Mitai-Ngatai doesn’t want the hype to slow done anytime soon.
“I definitely want to see it keep growing,” she said.
“I was one of those kids that was brought up with not enough money to be able to play netball. I want to give kids, and seniors as well, opportunities to play netball but not as expensive as it should be.
“I’m also trying to give them coaching. I never had coaching supplied to me. I’m trying to give back to the community.”
