It’s certainly been a wild couple of days for Centennials Bulls.
ORC earned their first win of the BDCA’s two-day series in their last opportunity to do so, holding Bulls at bay by just two runs.
Had Bulls caught the total of 182 and earned any second innings bonus points they would have snuck inside the competition’s all-important top four.
Bulls were in the perfect position to catch ORC’s total having started the day at 2-70, but the loss of early wickets at the Sportsground on Saturday put them on the back foot.
Finals chances may have been over for the Tigers but their bowling attack wasn’t any less determined to see out the season with positive intent.
It was just great for us to win one two-day game.
- Trent Fitzpatrick
“We just scraped home. They only had 110 runs to get so we were expecting them to come out swinging so they could get into the second innings,” ORC’s Trent Fitzpatrick said.
“Tim McKinnon got Aaron Seymour and Ryan Gurney out quickly and not long after that we got Josh Toole. Those were the big three wickets that we were looking for.
“Bulls were 5-132 at the first drinks break. Their tail wagged a bit and with six runs to go they still had two wickets in hand.”
A dropped Dave Sellers catch in the dying stages appeared to have cost Tigers their winning shot but ORC held on for a win.
Tigers hadn’t won a match since November’s fifth round, back in the one-day season.
Their opponent on that day also happened to be Centennials.
“It was just great for us to win one two-day game,” Fitzpatrick said.
“We’ve had our chances to win. It’s just taken some good individual performances from other players to take some of those games away from us.”
