Tasha Hartnett and her partner Craig Adams were driving in convoy to a birthday party with their family, when just near Brisbane they had a horror car accident.
Tasha was in the lead car when it collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction.
The impact was so hard that the car crushed around her, leaving her with a shattered pelvis and an arm so badly injured that it had to be subsequently removed.
The crash also left Tasha’s mother-in-law Maureen Adams and a number of children who were also in the car with minor injuries.
Tasha has remained in the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital since the accident, while the couple’s young children are in the care of Mrs Adams.
Speaking to the Western Advocate, Mrs Adams praised the quick-thinking actions of her daughter-in-law during the accident and her positive spirit since.
“She just turned the wheel so the impact was more on the driver’s side [of the car],” she said.
If it wasn’t for her quick thinking none of us would be here.

“She lost her arm and had a crushed pelvis which has been operated on.
"She’s lost her right arm and I suppose with Marty [the couple’s 11-month-old child] being so young it’ll be hard.”
Mrs Adams said while Tasha cannot walk right now, the doctors said she would regain more movement and they expect her to walk again in the future.
“She’s doing really well, they’re actually surprised at how well she’s doing," she said.
“Craig will help her, but she’s just glad to be alive.
“We’re just so glad we’re all still here. If it wasn’t for her quick-thinking none of us would be here.”
Meanwhile, a Go Fund Me page has been set up to assist the young family with medical expenses and living costs for Craig to remain with Tasha in Brisbane while she is in hospital.
Also, the Bathurst City Red Tops soccer club, of which Tasha’s sister Chey-anne was a former player, has organised a number of raffles at the Kelso Hotel for the next three consecutive Saturday nights from 6.30-7.30pm to raise additional funds to help the family.
More help from the family
AURA Artistic Images photographer Julia Adams, who is Craig’s sister, is also keen to do her bit to help.
She took the above portrait of the family and has offered to donate 20 per cent of any new photo shoot booked with her during March or April to the fundraiser.
