Then Allen Spencer says over 35s rugby might be for you.
”The Bathurst Central West Old Bulls Rugby Club is looking for players for the 2018 season and beyond and our next big adventure will be the Over 35 Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival in New Zealand - that’s an island just south of NSW,” he said.
Mr Spencer, the Old Bulls club president, says rugby union, like a number of other sports, is available for those who are over 35 – specifically, 35 to 50 years – who wish to continue to play and enjoy the game they loved in their younger years.
“This sport is so strong that many Sydney, Newcastle, Central Coast and Central West rugby clubs have an over 35s team,” he said.
“Clubs include Eastwood, Oatley, Manly, Terrey Hills, Penrith, Engadine, Central Coast, Dee Why, Newport, Blue Mountains and, locally, Orange Emus and Mudgee.
“Bathurst Old Bulls are part of the Sydney Over 35s Competition.”
The Over 35 Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival is played every two years, according to Mr Spencer, and the event will be held in April in the New Zealand South Island city of Christchurch.
Organisers expect 6000 players from around the world to gather to take part.
Teams have already entered from Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, Japan, New Zealand and the USA.
“The Bathurst Old Bulls have nominated a team and will represent the Central West,” Mr Spencer said.
He said the Bathurst Central West Old Bulls are seeking interested players for the 2018/19 season.
“If you are over 35 years old and love to strap up and put on a jersey, call us,” he said.
“Or join us at the Kings Hotel on Friday, March 23 at 6pm for further information.
“Our first season game is against the Orange Emus on Sunday, April 8 at Orange.
“Generally, normal rugby rules apply with some minor alterations, such as unlimited substitution and coloured shorts to identify your ability.
“Over-vigorous play is discouraged and at all times the emphasis is on playing for fun, friendship, fraternity and family – and, most important, never remember the score at the end of the game.”
The Bathurst Old Bulls play only once a month, according to Mr Spencer, so “it is not hard on the family”.
