Held annually, the day recognises woman across the world, their achievements and areas that still need improving.
The Neighbourhood Centre (TNC), in conjunction with Bathurst Regional Council, held a free morning tea on Thursday for the community.
“We’re recognising the role of women in the community,” TNC executive officer Jean Fell said.
She said there were many more opportunities for women these days compared to when she was young.
“The differences are noticeable, there’s so many jobs and education opportunities are so much broader,” Ms Fell said.
She said this year’s theme of ‘Leave no Woman Behind’ acknowledged that some women still faced significant issues such as poverty, homelessness and housing affordability.
“There’s so many people who are doing it tough,” Ms Fell said.
