Penrith five-eighth Fearnley helped his side achieve a 26-18 win over the Parramatta Eels last weekend in the junior competition’s opening round at Panthers Stadium.
Panthers almost squandered a 12-point lead in the second half but found the winning try inside the final six minutes courtesy of a well-placed Fearnley grubber kick.
The hosts survived an early attack on their try line before they opened the scoring in the fifth minute.
Penrith halfback Isaac Thompson put in a bomb to Shannon Harris before adding the extras for a 6-0 lead.
Fearnley thought he had scored off the end of a grubber kick but the ball had gone out the end of the in-goal.
Another Thompson kick led to Zac Ryan extending the lead to 10 points.
Eels halfback Dylan Brown got his side in the board but Panthers hit back for a 14-6 lead at the break through Brian Too.
J’maine Hopgood put the Panthers 12 ahead before the visitors began to fight back.
Sean Keppie and Haze Dunster brought the match back to level terms.
Fearnley instigated the winning moment when his grubber kick slipped through the hands of an Eels defender and was scooped up by Thompson.
A late penalty extended the lead to eight.
