Among the piles of books, ute-load of plants and a trailer-load of firewood, volunteers outside were preparing the grounds and volunteers inside were cooking ahead of the Holy Trinity Kelso Market Day.
Volunteer Carol Churches said the market day is one of two events – along with the spring fair in October – held each year to raise money for the historic church.
Built in 1835 on land commanding a sweeping view of Bathurst and the Macquarie River floodplain, Holy Trinity is the oldest church west of the Blue Mountains.
“And it is still in regular use,” Ms Churches said.
She said the market day will feature books, plants, “good coffee”, jewellery, clothing, bargains for blokes, craft, cakes, pick-a-leaf, a white elephant stall, refreshments and a barbecue.
There is also plenty of parking.
“That’s always a drawcard, because you don’t have to walk a long way,” she said.
Ms Churches said a raffle will be conducted for a load of wood (or $200 in cash) – which could come in handy as winter on the Central Tablelands draws closer.
The Holy Trinity Kelso Market Day will be held from 9am to 1pm on Saturday.
