DAVID Jack knows the elation that comes with winning Bathurst’s prestigious Gold Crown and if Major Kiss’ performance on Friday night is any indication, he could soon experience Gold Tiara success too.

The Euroa trainer who took out the 2007 Gold Crown final with Yrubla watched on at the Bathurst Paceway as Major Kiss took out her 1,730 metres Gold Tiara heat in impressive fashion.
Going from barrier seven with Jack’s nephew Cameron Maggs in the gig, the $2.40 favourite cruised to a 12.3m victory.
Major Kiss was quick to find the front, led by three lengths on the bell, then peeled off splits of 27.8 and 27.7 seconds in her run home for a 1:58.5 winning mile rate.
“I was very impressed,” Jack said after Major Kiss booked her place in the $100,000 Group 1 Gold Tiara final.
“As far as fillies go, for a two-year-old she’s a lovely race horse and that means a lot. You could have one with more ability that’s a bit erratic, but for a baby, she does nothing wrong.”
Major Kiss, who now boasts a record of two wins and two placings from five starts, is not only trained by Jack – he is also an owner and breeder of the Art Major x Kiss Kenny filly.
Kiss Kenny ran in the 2013 Gold Tiara series at the old Showground Paceway, winning her heat for Jack then placing fourth in the final won by Bill Trembath’s Distant Memory.
Jack, a former Gold Crown Carnival honouree, feels Major Kiss has the potential to do better than her mother.
“This one is much better than her mother,” he said.
“Her mother was very good, honest and a good type, but this filly is nice, she’s got a bit more ability.
“She’s a very easy going filly, she’s a real good pacer and travels easy, I couldn’t be happier.
“She could draw from the back row [for the final] and handle it, the closest in she’s ever been was four, she’s always been in five or six.”
The Gold Tiara final will be contested on March 31.
