AS the finish line loomed at the Bathurst Paceway in Saturday night’s Gold Bracelet final, for a moment Amanda Turnbull was thinking about a missed opportunity.

But it was only for a moment.
After losing concentration, Turnbull’s hopeful in the Group 2 final for three-year-old fillies – Art Series – switched back on and clinched victory in an exciting finish.
Art Series, a rank $44.70 outsider, went stride for stride with Soho Burning Love ($4.10) as they sprinted towards the post in the 2,260 metres final.
In the end it was Art Series, a Bettors Delight x Sheezallattitude filly who was declared a victor by a short half head in a 1:54.5 mile rate.
Soho Burning Love picked up second, while Amanda Turnbull’s cousin Ellen Rixon used the sprint lane to get her $94 long shot Major Chili into third a further 2½m back.
“She sorta switched off with 10 to go and I thought she cost herself the race, but she loves it when they go hard and it just worked out perfect,” Turnbull said.
It was a smart drive from Turnbull as she sat in the trail behind frontrunner Major Occasion, then hooked wide down the home straight.
The win added to her previous success on the Gold Crown Carnival’s final night in the Gold Tiara (2015, Pixies Parlour) and Gold Chalice (2017 Atomic Red, 2014 Mighty Gift), but she gave her The Lagoon trainer-father Steve Turnbull plenty of credit.
“I really have to thank Dad for this … I was too late putting my drives down in the heat and I told him ‘It’ll be right, you can just qualify him for the final and I’ll jump on him’,” she admitted.
