Books Plus Bathurst is familiar with receiving top accolades and while it didn’t take the top honour this year, it has previously won three times in 2010, 2013 and 2016.
The finalists were decided by publishers from all across Australia voting, according to Books Plus owner Kathryn Bancroft.
“The vote has a lot do with community engagement and the promotion of books,” she said.
“It has a lot to do with us being proactive.”
While the growth of e-books has slowed down the sale of hard copies, Ms Bancroft said she said people are still keen to buy the print vision for the experience.
“A book shop is like Disneyland for grown-ups. It’s like being in a lolly shop,” she said.
Books Plus was crowned a finalist on March 26, at the Australian Independent Bookseller’s annual conference in Tasmania.
It was a chance for some of the Books Plus staff to hear from authors and publishers from Australian and abroad.
As well, Ms Bancroft celebrated 30 years at Books Plus back in March.
