In three days McCulloch has ridden her way to a pair of gold medals and a bronze.
The 30-year-old is part of CSU’s Elite Athlete Program, studying for a Bachelor of Education. Though she spends most of her study hours away from Bathurst’s campus, she did make a visit last October while in the city to contest the Bathurst Track Open.
McCulloch said she is thankful that CSU has “recognised that my training and racing are my first priorities” – racing which is now putting her in the spotlight at Anna Meares Velodrome.
On the first day of competition she joined with Stephanie Morton to win gold in the women’s team sprint. They clocked a Games record 32.488 seconds in comfortably beating New Zealand.
On day two McCulloch added a bronze medal to her haul in the women’s sprint, averaging in excess of 63km/hr as she won her best of three ride off 2-0 over New Zealand’s Natasha Hansen.
Day three and it was gold once more as McCulloch won the women’s 500m time trial ahead of Morton.
“It’s been a dream so far … thanks Australia,” she tweeted.
On Sunday night McCulloch was looking to end her Games on a high with a medal in the keirin.
