The quake was recorded 5.39pm and it was at a depth of zero kilometres, data from Geoscience Australia Earthquakes (GAE) shows.

A map provided by GAE shows the tremor struck west of O’Connell Public School, just across the Fish River.

The GAE website states that there have been no reported injuries or damage.

“Estimated damage and felt radius cannot be calculated for this earthquake because the magnitude is less than 3.0,” it states.

The website also states that the damage radius should be taken as a “very rough guide to the region that could experience damage” and that damage may occur outside the damage radius.

“The severity of shaking during an earthquake is affected by factors such as the depth of the earthquake, local geology and soil conditions,” it states.

“Building damage depends on the quality and type of construction, as well as the severity of shaking.

“The damage radius depicted is approximate only, as it does not account for these factors or the uncertainty in the location of the epicentre.”
