Organisers of the upcoming Tremain’s Light Baazar say it will be a night to remember.
To be held on May 12 at Tremain’s Mill, the event will also showcase the inaugural Tremain Heritage Art Prize entries and winners.
It will be the next stage in the evolution of the landmark site.
“Tremain’s Light Bazaar is sure to be one hell of a party,” Mill creative and business development consultant Heath Smith said.
“We’ve created the event as we want the Bathurst community and surroundings to join in and witness first-hand the development of Tremain’s Mill into a food, beverage, retail, arts and accommodation precinct.
“As part of our community engagement program during the development stage of our project, we have created the Tremain’s heritage arts prize, something we hope to continue annually.”
Art entrepreneur Karl Shead will lead a troupe of 50 performers and light artists “to transform our mill into a feast of creativity”.
“All this will happen in the old Bedwells shed, exposing heritage beams and high ceilings for our guests to see the potential of our site,” Mr Smith said.
There will also be food trucks and drink stations.
Mill owner Stephen Birrell said the inaugural art prize attracted 60 entries, with all artists encouraged to capture what “was important to preserve for history”.
“There’s a good mixture of installations; there’s some sculptures, paintings and drawings,” he said.
Art prizes include $4000 for first place in the open category, a $2000 Young Artist Prize and the $2000 People’s Choice Award.
Public exhibition dates and voting for the People’s Choice Award are May 5-9.
The judging panel for the art prize consists of Arts Out West executive officer Tracey Cullinan, artist Nicole Welch, performance artist and producer Kate Smith and Bathurst Regional Art Gallery director Sarah Gurich.
Tickets are already on sale, and will also be available on the door if not sold out prior. Cost is $20 adults, $15 concession/student, $10 children and under sevens free.
Festivities will start at 6pm. Visit www.tremainsmill.com to purchase tickets.
