The Bathurst Cycling Club contested a handicap on the Vale Circuit and it was Darren Fenton who posted an impressive victory.
It was his first handicap win and it carried special significance given the Bathurst Cycling Club held weekly handicap races on the same roads back in the 1800s.
Going off a 21 minute handicap alongside Norman Wise, Fenton soon threatened early leaders Rosemary Hastings and Cathy Adams.
After reeling them in, Fenton surged which resulted in him breaking clear and he rode off in search of a solo win.
With Fenton quickly building a solid lead, it became clear that the only threat could come from the three minute bunch led by Drew Carter, Will Lesh, Steven Scott, Scott James, Drew Tuckwell, Ian Glen and Luke Tuckwell.
But Fenton maintained a solid pace to hold off his rivals and take the win, with Tuckwell claiming second ahead of Carter.
After recording fastest time for the four-lap event - clocking a time of one hour, 14 seconds – scratch rider Mark Windsor was delighted.
“[It’s] Wonderful to put some life back into the historic old motor race circuit which was once home to one of the biggest motor sport promotions in the nation, the Australian Motor Cycling TT title,” he said.
