There were eight very impressive stations located right beside the visitors centre, with a van staffed to answer questions and hand out things to see and do around Goulburn.

I proceeded to drive on to Orange via Tuena and Trunkey Creek, which I have been doing for 20 years now.

What I saw as I traversed the route was a triumph of gradualism from two councils working together.

When I started using this route it had extensive and randomly maintained dirt sections, including a very dangerous beginning down slope when coming from Orange.

Now it has sealed bitumen from start to finish and to the best of my knowledge this has been done without large injections of State or Federal money.

The council officers responsible should be congratulated as the road now is a viable alternative route from Goulburn to the Central West, with the road to Bathurst in better  condition from Trunkey Creek.

The two councils as best I can tell were Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Bathurst Regional Council.

So now an all electric Tesla car can charge at Goulburn and drive to Bathurst without any range anxiety or vice versa, then on to Dubbo or back from Dubbo to Canberra.

It is quite a scenic route including a recent addition – hay bale art – whilst also providing easy southern two-wheel drive access to both Abercrombie and Jenolan caves.

The only thing left to do to make the route all-weather as well as all bitumen is to place an all-weather bridge at Tuena.

Reminds me of another long suggested bridge … at Long Point.
