There was little trouble for Collegians, excluding a small stumble after the half-time break, as they added to last round’s victory over Bulldogs Verdelho and a win via forfeit over Mana in their season opener.
Collegians coach Melissa Noonan took the opportunity to work on some different structures following her team’s excellent start to the game.
“We thought with All Saints still finding their feet in A grade, but playing well, we’d be able to work on some combinations. Our two new shooters are starting to work well with our existing shooter,” she said.
“They won the third quarter but we got up in the second quarter 21-4. Because we’d had that opening round forfeit we’re behind a little on goal difference so it was good for the girls to get those points.”
Collegians share the top of the ladder with Panthers, who are also on nine points thanks to their huge 62-19 win on Saturday over CSU.
Panthers have come out firing this season. Their relentless offence from their three games has racked up 170 points.
The Collegians versus Panthers match, coming in two rounds’ time, has the potential to be the game of the season.
“I definitely happy with where we are at,” Noonan said.
“You never want to peak too early. Obviously you go out there with the aim to win every game but we’re focused on trying to improve our game every week.
“I’m really happy with the consistency we’re showing each game. Apart from the third quarter, where we tried a few different things, we’ve managed to remain consistent.”
In Saturday’s other match Bulldogs Verdelho opened their account with a much-needed win over Mana.
The defending champions have leapt into third place thanks to their hard-fought 35-29 victory.
CSU remain inside the top four while Mana and ASC sit fifth and sixth.
