This Saturday at George Park 2 he will attempt to guide the Southern Thunder to victory against the Northern Suns in the first women’s representative match staged by the league.
Neve’s Southern outfit draws on players from his Lady Bushrangers, 2018 league newcomers the Bathurst Giants and the Cowra Blues.
The Northern outfit consists of the best female talent from Orange, Dubbo and Parkes.
Neve feels the introduction of this fixture to the league’s representative program is a reflection of the growth of women’s Australian rules in the Central West.
It will be played on the same day as the CWAFL representative outfits tackle Northern Riverina Football League in their annual showdown.
“It's great to see the rising skill development in the senior women’s league this season. This season is sitting even results-wise, with Cowra and Parkes improving,” he said.
“With the rep round this week, it’s going to be a fantastic day up at George Park. Congratulations and good luck to all players involved.”
Though the Southern versus Northern concept is a new one, skipper of the Thunder outfit – Keeghan Tucker – brings plenty of representative experience with her.
She has previously worn Greater Western Sydney Giants colours at the SCG when taking on the Swans in an exhibition match, while Tucker has also represented the NSW/ACT outfit.
Tucker views Saturday’s match as a way to further promote the sport to women.
“I’m excited about the opportunity and look forward to playing with girls from the other clubs. This is such a positive thing for the women’s AFL in the Central West,” she said.
With the Giants and Lady Bushrangers sitting second and third on the league ladder, their finest will make Southern an imposing rival for Thunder.
Opening bounce in the Southern versus Northern clash at George Park 2 is at 12.45pm on Saturday.
