This victory on Saturday came during the club’s old boys’ day celebrations,
As well, CSU’s Yellow and Blue teams went head-to-head in league tag, which resulted in a Yellow victory, before the Blue team thumped Lithgow Bears later in the afternoon.
While the win keeps CSU in third position – in a play-off spot – the victory was far from convincing according to coach Riley Scelly.
“It was a pretty scrappy win,” he said.
“It wasn’t our best result and we had a few out.
“The game was a lot closer then what we were expecting and Lithgow came out firing pretty well. We made a lot of errors, especially on our fourth and fifth tackles.
“However, we were missing Billy Dickinson who is our spine, our halfback.
“But we were able to get the win and the old boys were crazy on the hill.
“We also had some girls there too, from our past league tags teams. There would’ve been about 50-odd of them who turned up, supporting us on the day.
“The support really helped us out.”
In the league tag, Yellow was able to get on top of Blue, who had several players missing.
Blue ended up playing the last game of the day with just eight players but were too good for their Lithgow Bears opposition, winning 38-0.
Around the grounds, undefeated ladder leaders Blackheath Blackcats claimed a big 36-0 win over second place Orange Barbarians, showing how far ahead they are of their nearest rivals.
They now bump their record up to eight wins from eight games.
Elsewhere, Kandos Waratahs lost by two against Portland Colts.
The 28-16 proved a crucial defeat, with Colts remaining in four while Kandos are stuck in fifth place.
Kandos’ man of the match Nathan Annetts said execution cost his side.
“We made just as many, if not more metres than Portland but we couldn’t put the polish on some of our sets,” he said.
“Dropped balls didn’t help us either.”
In round nine action, CSU will travel to Waratahs Park to play Kandos, Lithgow Bears are at home against the red-hot Blackheath Blackcats and Orange Barbarians host Portland Colts.
