Supercars to take to new SA racetrack

The facility, which opened at Tailem Bend earlier this year, will host SuperSprint as round 11 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

"This is a facility that is going to create massive regional tourism for our state," Premier Steven Marshall said at the SuperSprint launch on Tuesday.

"What it's going to do for South Australia's economy is absolutely amazing."

The Bend managing director Sam Shahin said the project reflected his family's commitment to doing business in the state.

"We have to be ambitious and we, as a company, as an organisation, have put our money where our mouth is," he said.

Dr Shahin said interest in the August 24-26 event has already been strong, with the track-side hotel booked out, and almost half of the 600 campsites sold.

The naming rights partner for the event was on Tuesday announced as On The Run - a South Australian convenience and petrol chain also owned by the Shahin family.

"We are a proud family, we are a proud company and OTR is a proud South Australian brand so it's a marriage made in heaven," Dr Shahin said.

Driver Nick Percat, who won the Bathurst 1000 in 2011, said he expects to be tested by the "really challenging and technical circuit".

"Getting a look at the circuit, you can see a number of areas you expect will be high-speed and turns that are going to be critical to get right when we start racing here," he said.

"Everyone will be pushing to be at the front from opening practice through to the final race on the Sunday, so I think it will be a great weekend of racing."

Five support categories will be featured at the inaugural OTR SuperSprint, including the Toyota 86 Racing Series' first race in South Australia.

The Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia, V8 Touring Car Series, Aussie Racing Car Series and Formula Ford National Series are also on the program.
