“In winter time, there’s not much on in Bathurst,” the church’s Joy Press said this week. “And it’s very cosy in the hall [the parish and community centre] when the heaters are on.”
Others must agree, because the inaugural high tea last year drew more than 100 people to the church’s parish and community centre.
“We found that people stayed to sit around and chat,” Ms Press said. “It’s a good social get-together for Bathurst and community – and us.”
Built in 1835 on land commanding a sweeping view of Bathurst and the Macquarie River floodplain, Holy Trinity is the oldest church west of the Blue Mountains and remains in regular use, hosting weddings, services, baptisms and funerals.
As well as the high tea, Holy Trinity hosts a market day in early autumn and a spring fair in October each year.
The high tea will be held on Saturday, July 14 at 2pm and the cost will be $25 per person (RSVP by July 4).
And on the menu?
“A lovely home-cooked afternoon tea,” Ms Press said. “Cakes and slices made by the members of Holy Trinity Church.”
