The Derek Kerr-trained runner has developed a habit of winning every second time he comes to the track, maintaining the strange pattern with success in the Bathurst RSL Club Heat 1 (450 metres).
Jacobite Dougie ($3.80 favourite) maintained his strong record from box two thanks to a quick start on the treacherous opening turn at Bathurst.
From there he was always going to be difficult to stop.
Gotta Be Texta ($4.20) and Clue Master ($8) were the next-best runners away and the leading trio put some distance between themselves and the rest of the field.
At the half way point Jacobite Dougie couldn’t shake off the two chasers. They were running alongside each other a further two lengths away.
Jacobite Dougie pushed the lead out to three lengths on the turn for home as Gotta Be Texta struggled to keep pace.
Kerr’s runner held on for a two length win over Clue Master and River ($4.50) pinched third place on the post.
The winning time was 26.20 seconds.
“Every second week seems to be his week. Funny how it works like that,” Kerr said.
“If you get in front from that start you’re a good chance. That’s his 11th win now. He just keeps on going.
“We had him going for a fair while. We gave him a couple of months to freshen up and now he’s come back to win three in a short space of time.”
