And while the new council has been recently elected, members will get to work straight away as they help plan the Bathurst Winter Festival youth music event Groove and Grill on July 15.
Ms Boshier, of The Scots School, and Ms Nichols, of Bathurst High Campus, were nominated by their fellow youth councillors.
Both have previously been involved with the council, helping organise events and courses.
“We’ve both previously been a part of the council and the new positions were something we’ve aimed for and something we had to be nominated for,” Ms Boshier said.
“We had to nominate someone or ourselves for a role. Then we had to say a speech and why we should be the mayor or deputy mayor and then everyone had to vote.
“We’ve organised events in the past like youth week and YJAM [which is now Groove and Grill].”
And while youth events have proven to be popular, the council has also previously partnered with TAFE to provide valuable learning opportunities.
“We partnered with TAFE to provide how-to-adult life skills, which proved to be really popular,” Ms Nichols said.
The new positions were something we’ve aimed for.

“We’ve also gone to and sat in on council meetings and we’ve both spoken at them.”
Both students are in year 11 and while Ms Boshier is on her school’s Student Representative Council and Ms Nichols in her school’s debating team, they both have no long-term aspirations for entering senior council or politics.
“I want to get into creative design,” Ms Boshier said.
“I want to be an English teacher,” Ms Nichols said.
The youth council meets formally every two months and every three weeks for working party meetings.
The council is comprised of 14 youth in total.
The new youth council’s first event of the year – Groove and Grill – will see several local young artists perform on the stage from 11am on July 15.
Bring along a blanket, friends and family and enjoy the Winter Playground which will be in full swing.
There will also be a barbecue, food stalls and sweet treats on hand.
