It will be a fight of horsepower, tactics, driving skill and endurance.
The ‘Fight in the Night’ is the highlight of the second round of the Australian Production Car championship, a 300 kilometre test which will be run once the sun sets at Queensland Raceway.
The round also includes another 300km race on Sunday, but it is Saturday’s format which has Bathurst driver Blake Aubin excited.
“I can't wait, it is going to be a different spectacle up there because we have a night race up there on the Saturday. So that's going to chuck in some different challenges with the pit stops at night in the dark and 300 kilometres in the dark - it will be awesome,” he said.
“We're really excited for this one, we get excited for all the rounds, but this one, I don't know what it is, but we are all excited to get up there and race. Maybe it's the warmer weather.”
The brothers share the wheel of a Renault Megane RS265 Trophy R, one in which they dominated their Class C category in during the series opener at Sandown.
They have targeted overall class victory for the series this season, so Blake is hoping that good form extends to the Ipswich venue.
“Everything was perfect for us at round one at Sandown, we couldn’t of had a better weekend really and that was in the wet and dry - all conditions,” he said.
“So we have a fair bit of confidence from that, but we’ve never been to Queensland before, so it is going to be a challenge learning the track at night.
“Our goal for this year, since January, we’ve wanted to win our class in Australian Production Cars, so we’ll do whatever we need to do to achieve that.
“We need to keep getting class podiums and if that’s class wins that’s awesome, but we need to keep getting good points come Philip Island in round five.”
Aside from racing at night and at a venue they have not previously driven at, the pair of endurance races will test both the drivers and their Renault.
But Blake is confident both will be able to handle that challenge.
“It’s going to be a fair bit hotter up in Queensland, so that is the first sort of challenge, but we always stay pretty fit in the gym and stuff,” he said.
“For the car, 300 kilometres is always pretty taxing, but touch wood the Megane Renault has always been reliable for us. That 300 kilometres is a lot, especially at Queensland Raceway as it’s a fast track it’s going to be quite hard on the car, and tyres, but we just have to drive accordingly to that.”
The Aubins’ Renault will have a new livery for the Queensland round with new sponsors BetterGrow and Vivability coming on board.
