On Saturday as the Saints posted a 3-2 win over Orange CYMS in Orange, they added the green and golds to their list of victims for 2018.
The win also saw the Saints finish six points clear of their closest rival Lithgow Panthers, but perhaps more importantly for coach Jaden Ekert was the way they went about notching up their latest success.
With the impending finals in mind, he implemented a new system for his players. It did take time for them to adjust, but once they did it got them the result.
“It was a pretty tight contest. We tried a new system in the first half, but we probably weren’t doing what the coach told us to do,” Saints’ Julie Hanman said.

“But in the second half we got it all together and did what we planned to do, we shut them down a little bit through the middle.
“Jaden wasn’t worried about the result today, he just wanted to try the new structure. I think we were worried about the result, we didn’t want to drop a game.
“It was nice to try something and for it to be successful and for us to come away with a win.”
The Saints opened up a 2-1 lead in the first half and bagged another after the break to seal the result. Kristy Ekert finished with a double while Georgie McGregor struck as well as the blue and whites extended their unbeaten run to 12 rounds.
“I think we had the best of the attack in the second half, definitely, it was just the new structure that took us a little bit of time to get used to,” Hanman said.
“We were never behind in the game, but when we scored two goals of our goals we relaxed for the next five minutes and they came back and hit us.”
ST PAT’S 3 (Kristy Ekert 2, Georgie McGregor) defeated ORANGE CYMS 2 (Madie Smith, Phoebe Litchfield)
