TWO events in Bathurst on the weekend commemorated those who served the nation in the Vietnam War, honouring their courage and their commitment.

The first was a service at the War Memorial Carillon on Saturday morning and the second was a service at the Vietnam Veterans’ Park held in freezing conditions on Sunday morning.
The Sunday service began with a parade, accompanied by the Canobolas Highland Pipe Band.
Madison Tasker sang the classic anti-war anthem I Was Only Nineteen.

Member for Bathurst Paul Toole, who was the guest speaker at the event, spoke about the challenges faced by veterans in war and in their return to Australia.
“It does not matter where people go to fight for our country, they deserve to be looked after by us and acknowledged for their gallant and valiant efforts,” he said.
