Around 30 people turned up to help pack donations made through the Thumbs up for Farmers campaign initiated back in June, where people were asked to donate non perishable goods or toiletries to be redistributed to farmers in need.
Since the campaign was launched, thousands of items have been dropped off to both 2BS and Town and Country Rural Supplies, which were boxed up and made into care packages on Wednesday.
Maria Kamper, who works at Town and Country Rural Supplies said she was amazed by the generosity of the public. She also thanked the volunteers who came down to pack.
Vicki Wilson, owner of Town and Country said so many people had come on board to help.
“Mars Pet Care and Dawson’s have been amazing.”
Ms Wilson said so many farmers were facing hardship.
She said applying government help was a nightmare; most farmers are hand feeding twice a day, don’t have time to apply, and when they do they are not eligible.
“They are being told they are not entitled, they don’t even get a chance to explain their circumstances.”
