The Royal Australian Mint has released 12 new collectors coins, available to buy on its website, immortalising some of the greatest race cars in the history of motor sport.
Each marque is represented by six coins, featuring cars driven by icons such as Peter Brock, Craig Lowndes, Allan Moffat and Dick Johnson.
Ten of the cars featured were Bathurst winners in their respective years.
There will be 30,000 of each of coin produced.
Royal Australian Mint chief executive officer, Ross MacDiarmid, said the coins represented a “perfect partnership”.
“The new 2018 Motorsport coin collection celebrates the history of Holden, Ford and Australia’s long held love of racing,” he said.
“Coins and cars are hot topics in collectibles, making this the perfect partnership.”
To celebrate the release of the coins, the mint is holding a ‘Reverendum’ to find Australia’s favourite Fords and Holdens.
To take part in the Reverendum, fans can cast their votes for their favourite motor sport car of all time on either the Ford or Holden dedicated websites.
Ford fans need to visit ReverendumBlue.com.au, while Holden fans can cast their votes at ReverendumRed.com.au.
Voting is available for two weeks, closing on September 4, after which Australia’s favourite Ford and Holden vehicles will be announced.
