A CRITICAL incident investigation into the death of a man shot at Kelso one year ago remains ongoing, with investigators yet to set a date for a coronial inquest into the matter.

Ian Fackender, 47, was fatally shot by police following a confrontation in Kelso on August 30 last year.
Officers were called to the View Street property after they said concerns were raised about a man inside.
Officers spoke to Mr Fackender in the backyard of the property, where he allegedly threatened police with a sharp object. Police said a number of tactical responses were attempted before the shots were fired.
Chifley Police District issued a statement that night saying a man had been shot and died at the scene.
The statement went on to say “a critical incident investigation will now examine all circumstances surrounding the incident”.
“We will provide further details once they come to hand,” the statement said.
A spokesperson for the State Crime Command’s homicide squad, which has carriage of the investigation, said this week that the investigation was ongoing.
“The investigation into the death of a man during a police operation at Kelso on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 is being led by a Critical Incident Investigation Team from the Homicide Squad,” the spokesperson said.
“Their investigation is subject to an independent review and will be prepared as a brief of evidence to the NSW Coroner in due course.”
The spokesperson said inquest dates are set by the coroner following consultation with the victim’s family, counsel assisting the coroner, investigators, and other involved parties.
Following his death, Mr Fackender’s family remembered him for what they said was his “kindhearted” nature.
They paid tribute to him in a series of social media posts following his death.
His brother Mark Fackender said he was taken "way too soon", while another relative remembered him as "a loving father, son, uncle, brother".
His aunt Pam Aleckson wrote: "My heart is breaking for our beautiful young man. I will hold many cherished memories of a special and kindhearted person."
