A triumph of local music and performance programs the double bill will be at BMEC on Friday, September 28, with tickets available from BMEC now or at the door.
Safety of Life at Sea has a distinctly vintage vibe inspired by blues and soul as well as the classic songwriters of the ’60s and ’70s.
The band formed in 2011 in Sydney but now gallantly straddles the Blue Mountains with members on either side, based out of a home studio in O’Connell.
They released their debut self-titled album in 2013 and a second serving, Foxy’s Farm, was released in 2017.
The rhythm section takes a leaf out of the books of Stax and Motown, and the piano went for a weekend in New Orleans and never really came back.
With a full band onstage, audiences can expect City Hall to be filled with their sound. Choose to sit back and enjoy with a drink or get up and have a boogie.
Meanwhile, Sweet Revenge will be looking to learn from the experienced headliners when they open the night.
Sweet Revenge is a four-piece rock band hailing from Bathurst.
They formed in 2016 when a teacher thought it might be cool to have a rock band at Mackillop College.
With Jenna Orpwood on drums, Ella McPhillamy on keyboard, Belle Whitwell on lead guitar and vocals and Zoe Bunyan on bass and vocals, the girls came together and jumped straight into songwriting.
They play originals and covers and are influenced by artists such as Twenty One Pilots, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and Palaye Royale.
Sweet Revenge has opened for Travis Collins and Amber Lawrence as well as playing at Youth Council’s YJAM. They represent the Bathurst Academy of Music and are mentored by Mickey Pye.
Lead guitarist Belle says they are very excited to be on the bill with Safety of Life at Sea.
“We are looking forward to their show at Band Night as we love their music and can’t wait to see them live.”
Dreams for the band include touring internationally, but in the near future they plan on releasing some songs that they are currently working on.
“We love playing together, as we are all best friends and making music together makes each of us feel a sense of belonging and pride,” Belle said.
The band nights at BMEC aim to celebrate live music, local and regional musicians and the Bathurst arts-loving community. Doors open from 7pm, music will start at 8pm. Tickets are $20 for an adult and $10 for those under 15.
