Planning approval has been granted for the work which will see the station open to passengers on-request from March.
A 15-metre platform, with lighting, an information board, tactile indicators and a help point will be added to the front of the platform to allow access to trains.
The work will be done from Mondays-Saturdays and part of the overflow car park will be closed off to the public for the site works compound.
A wooden picket fence will be installed on the platform extension.
Following community consultation the existing Millthorpe station sign, which is hidden behind undergrowth, will remain on the original platform.
After the platform is constructed, Sydney Trains will work on the station to prepare for it for re-opening.
